Are you looking for a nail technician school where you can build real skills, work with real clients, and prepare for your state license? PJ’s College of Cosmetology offers a 600-hour Nail Technician program at select campuses throughout Indiana and Kentucky. You’ll learn everything from manicures, pedicures, and nail techniques to sanitation, nail anatomy and disorders, chemistry, and the safe use of the electric drill and file. You’ll also develop the sales and client service skills you need to build a loyal clientele.
Most campuses offer full-time and part-time schedules, with new classes starting throughout the year. That means you can choose a schedule that works for your life. Students at our Indianapolis and Muncie campuses can also choose our shorter 450-hour Manicuring course. Ready to take the first step? Contact us to begin the enrollment process.
Great nail technicians combine creativity with precision and strong sanitation habits. At PJ’s College of Cosmetology, you’ll learn the theory behind each service and then put those lessons into practice. Our instructors use classroom lessons and demonstrations to teach you the fundamentals, followed by plenty of hands-on training.
You’ll practice manicures and pedicures while learning about nail anatomy and disorders, the chemistry behind professional nail products, and how to use an electric drill and file safely and confidently.
Once you complete your first 60 hours of training, you’ll have the opportunity to provide nail services to guests in our student salon under the direct supervision of licensed instructors. Working with real clients gives you a chance to improve your technique, manage your time, and develop the communication skills that help keep clients coming back.
Our smaller classes also give you more time with your instructors. They’ll get to know you by name and work with you one-on-one as you build your skills. You’ll also work with a variety of leading professional nail brands, and we update our selection as the industry changes.
Your nail technology training can prepare you for a variety of professional settings. Licensed nail technicians can work in salons and spas, on cruise ships, or at resorts. Some go on to management or open their own salons, while others work with retailers or companies that manufacture professional nail products. You can also continue your education and become an instructor who trains the next generation of nail professionals.
Most of our campuses offer both full-time and part-time schedules, so you can choose the pace that works best for you. Full-time students train for 30 hours per week, while part-time students train for 20 hours per week.

PJ’s Nail Technician program combines classroom theory with hands-on training to help you build the skills you need for professional nail technology and prepare to sit for your state licensing exam. Once you complete the required program hours and meet the school’s progress requirements, you can take the next steps toward state licensure.
In Indiana, nail technician licensure requires 600 hours of nail technology education at an Indiana beauty culture school, a passing score on the written examination, and an applicant age of at least 18. Kentucky nail technician students complete 600 hours and follow Kentucky’s examination and licensing requirements.
Your training also goes beyond technical skills. You’ll learn about the business side of nail technology and how building strong, long-term client relationships can support your career. PJ’s also provides career and job-search resources, including information about career opportunities, resumes, and job-search skills.
The Nail Technician program requires 600 clock hours in both Indiana and Kentucky.
